Town Hall: Budgeting and Taxes April 26, 2016
Let’s discuss the coming year’s City programs, priorities, and revenues, and get your ideas and comments. The General Assembly requires the advance information below (via KRS 132.027) for this notice – but there’s a lot more to talk about, so I hope you can attend a public hearing at Audubon Country Club on April 26, 2016 at 6 PM.
Last year’s property tax rate, 27¢ per $100 value, produced $350,471 for the City. The proposed rate for the next year would bring about 4% more, or $364,490. The compensating rate would otherwise yield about the same $350K. We can compute exact rates as soon as PVA property rolls arrive (expected just before the meeting). There is no new real property. Motor vehicle taxes should produce about $24,000.
Priority uses for new revenue include physical security and storage facilities for City records; reforestation; small wage increases for police officers; entrance and park lighting; fixing or replacing failing City Hall infrastructure; starting a reserve fund for contingencies; and supplementing the road fund.
Please bring your ideas to Audubon Club at 6 PM on the 26th. See you there! Salud, Dorn
Audubon Park Vacancies
We're also still seeking to fill one opening on the Ethics Board, and one primary and one alternate for the Code Enforcement Board. These boards meet only occasionally, but are very important when they do - and the rest of the time, they're a great resume item. Please consider stepping up to one of these, by making one of the same contacts as above.
INSURANCE BUSINESS TAX:
That little strip of silver stickers included with your last tax bill really seems to be paying off. The stickers, you’ll recall, were to affix to your various insurance premium bills as they came due, to be sure your insurers know to pay their business tax to Audubon Park, and not Metro. In just the first payment cycle last month, we’d already heard from 35 new companies, bringing in more than $3K of new revenue! And that’s bound to increase as premiums are paid throughout the year. Thanks, everybody, for your help in shoring up our finances. Please let City Hall know when you need more stickers - they work!
